Wagh Bakri: Tea that brews unity!

Wagh Bakri, a premium tea brand, traces its origins to the vision and determination of Narandas Desai. In 1892, Desai embarked on his tea journey with a 500-acre tea estate in South Africa. Despite his success, the harsh racial discrimination he witnessed in the country compelled him to return to India.

Armed with a certificate from Mahatma Gandhi, commending him as the most honest and experienced tea estate owner in South Africa, Narandas Desai established the Gujarat Tea Depot in 1919 and began selling loose tea.

In 1934, Desai started selling tea under the name Wagh Bakri for the first time. The name and its iconic logo reflected more than just tea. The image of a tiger (wagh) and a goat (bakri) sipping tea from the same cup symbolized the spirit of coexistence. The Wagh represented power, and the Bakri humility. Both sharing tea symbolized unity and harmony.

Over the years, Wagh Bakri has grown into a household name. Today, it is one of the leading packaged tea companies in India. Each cup of Wagh Bakri tells a story of equality, resilience, and the joy of shared experiences—making it not just a tea, but a symbol of unity in diversity.
